Anthony3 Poston (John2, John1) was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, probably about 1760. Census records indicate that he was several years younger than his brother, John3. It was shown in Chapter 1 that the name was originally Anthony. More evidence is the fact that Anthony is listed in the South Carolina Census in 1800 and in 1810, but the first Andrew Poston listed is Anthony's youngest son in 1840. It is not known when and why the name Anthony was changed to Andrew, but Anthony's oldest son, Hugh, in his Bible bought 6 November 1838, stated that he was the son of Andrew Poston and his wife Elizabeth. From Hugh's Bible, we know that Anthony's wife was named Elizabeth. Anthony and Elizabeth are shown in the 1820 S.C. Census as an older couple living with Hugh and his wife. By the 1830 Census, Anthony and Elizabeth had died. Census records also show that Anthony and Elizabeth had three sons and two daughters. The only information

the writer has concerning the two daughters was found in the notes left by Dr. W. H. Poston: ''Antney Poston's children were Hugh, Daniel, wife of Bobbie Powell, mother Wilson." The sons were: •Hugh Poston, b. 27 August 1791 •Daniel Poston •Andrew Poston, b. 1807 (age 43 in 1850 census) Andrew married Mary Poston, a daughter of Ely Poston (see page 98).
