About this edition

This volume presents a comprehensive, evidence‑based history of the Poston family, tracing its lineage from the early‑18th‑century migration of John Poston from England to Pennsylvania and following his descendants through their settlement in South Carolina. Drawing on archival land records, wills, census data, church documents, and family bibles, the work reconstructs a multigenerational narrative that was nearly lost to time. It situates the family’s movement within the broader historical context of the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road and documents the Postons’ longstanding ties to regional families such as the Baldridges, Daniels, Colemans, and Powells. More than a collection of vital statistics, this genealogy restores historical continuity, clarifies long‑standing uncertainties, and preserves the cultural memory of a family whose roots extend across three centuries. Based on the 1965 genealogy compiled by Erma Poston Landers, this Second Edition has been fully revised, authenticated, and expanded through modern archival research, digital restoration, and structured genealogical analysis. It serves as a definitive reference for descendants, historians, and researchers seeking an accurate and meticulously documented account of the Poston family’s origins and legacy.
